Why Diversity? To Strengthen our Businesses...
When we say we believe that "our future rests on our collective ability to embrace change and leverage diversity" we
mean it. At Fox Entertainment and our parent company News Corporation, we fully understand that our businesses are
only as strong as they are relevant and compelling to our consumers. And in order to remain relevant and compelling, we
must tell stories and inform our consumers with ideas, faces and voices that reflect the richness of the globe today.
"Diversity trend brings unparalleled success..."
Continuing to illustrate our consumers' demand for such entertainment and informative content, the 2005 - 2006 season
represented yet another watershed year for diversity within the entertainment industry and within News Corporation / Fox
Entertainment. Significant attention was focused toward series, films, storylines and personalities of varied cultural
backgrounds. Considering the recent Oscar nominations, a record eight of twenty (or 40%) of individual actor
nominations this year included people of color including Forest Whitaker, who took home the honor for Best Actor in a
Leading Role for Fox Searchlight's THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, and Fox Broadcasting Company's 2004 American Idol
finalist Jennifer Hudson's win as Best Supporting Actress for DreamWorks' DREAMGIRLS.
The Emmys also awarded Fox Entertainment Group's diverse series and talent, with FOX's "24" receiving the award for
Outstanding Drama Series (Manny Coto, Co-Executive Producer), Andre Braugher receiving Outstanding Lead Actor in a
Miniseries or Movie for FX's "Thief," Greg Garcia receiving the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for 20th
Century Fox Television's pilot "My Name is Earl." Also in terms of television, the picture is not complete without mentioning
"American Idol," the perennial ratings "juggernaut" and diverse hits including "House," "Prison Break" and the ever-growing
drama, "Bones."
In addition to these productions, the organization also saw ratings increases at National Geographic (thanks in part to
the reality series "The Dog Whisperer"), New York Post Tempo readership increases, dominance in Fox Sports en Español,
and success in Zondervan's African American-voiced audio Bible, which started shipping "Inspired By...The Bible
Experience" in late September and to date has sold more than 310,000 units, making it the fastest selling bible in history. It
took home "Audiobook of the Year" after beating out all its competitors at this year's Book Expo America (BEA) 2007 and
also won in the Inspirational / Spiritual category. Among the performers were Blair Underwood (Jesus), Samuel L. Jackson
(God), Angela Bassett (Esther), Denzel Washington (Solomon), and Cuba Gooding Jr. (Judas).
The strength of diversity is most tangible...
